DCCT for Healthcare organisations
Learn about the different needs for deaf and hard of hearing patients in healthcare settings and aged care facilities. Learn how to book interpreters and communicate with patients. The workshop will build a deeper understanding gained from real stories and insights of people with lived experience accessing healthcare in Victoria.

DCCT for Aged care workforce
Deaf or hard of hearing residents can find living in aged care facilities isolating, so it is critical they do not experience those barriers. You will learn about the different needs for deaf and hard of hearing patients in aged care settings, how to book interpreters and communicate with patients. Gain real insights from listening to stories from lived experience of being deaf or hard of hearing in Victoria. Know the law and rights to accessibility and services for to deaf and hard of hearing Victorians. Learn about the diversity in our community and what our communication needs are. We will discuss the key systemic and policy barriers we are still experiencing and identify solutions to address these. Each workshop will be tailored to suit your specific service area. DCCT for Mental Health
Mental health services in particular are extremely difficult for deaf and hard of hearing people and children to access and find support. Often help lines are not accessible, staff lack training and knowledge causing heightened risk of miscommunication and misdiagnosis. This is an area Deaf Victoria is currently active in advocating for systematic change at State level. Our training also provides real-life stories and scenarios that have actually occurred in the Victorian state system and the steps taken. This training will provide you a safe space to feel confident in understanding how to better support deaf and hard of hearing people in the mental health system and service.

In partnership with DeafBlind Victoria, we can also deliver an additional hands-on workshop designed for organisations and the wider community to understand what it is like to live with deafblindness.
Learn Auslan
Our workshops do not include learning Auslan.
However, we can provide Auslan training to staff in your organisation as an optional packaged with any of our recommended education or consultancy service partners.
